The Faggots and Their Friends Between Revolutions
Larry Mitchell, Ned Asta
1977

I'm not sure I can put into words just how much this book means to me. I read it earlier this year (2022) and it's something I think about almost daily. Made up of short stories, poems and illustrations, this tells the story of the daily lives of the faggots and the world they live in. There are recurring characters in the queens, the outcast women (lesbians), the fairies and the queer men. It's one of hope and a dream of a better, communal future, one where gender and sexuality is stripped bare and no one has to fight for survival. It speaks to my anarcho-communist beliefs and to my nonbinary dyke identity. It's what I dream of when I look to fight against the oppressive forces that have been closing in more and more in my state. It's a book I will always hold close to my heart and share to others that need hope when it feels like all hope has been taken from us.
