Joy - Beacon of Excess (2023)

I was so into Joy's first EP (self-titled) and preordered this cassette as soon as it was announced. They did not disappoint! Joy's music is self-described as "peace punk" and while I don't know what exactly they mean, I do know I enjoy it. It's the kind of music that overwhelms and sounds great coming out of a Walkman. The riffs loop in on themselves along with the droning vocals and all of it inexplicably makes me want to dance.

album cover for Toto Coelo's Dracula's Tango (Sucker For Your Love)

Toto Coelo - Dracula's Tango (Sucker For Your Love) (1982)

I went record shopping for my birthday and picked up this 12" single and have been obsessed ever since. Toto Coelo were a 1980s UK new wave/dance act that had a hit song in the US called I Eat Cannibals (another track I found several months ago on a dance mix tape I got from an estate sale) but Dracula's Tango (Sucker for Your Love) is even better. I'm a sucker (ha!) for vampires, especially cheesy 80s vamps, so this track hits all the right notes for me. I also adore the music video and highly recommend checking it out.

Nice Biscuit - Digital Mountain (2018)

Just some really good psych rock out of Australia! Heavenly vocals that remind me a bit of La Luz layered over some great guitarwork. A great thing to throw on during car rides or when you need a good laydown on your bedroom floor.
